ÖZLEM KAYA

Director
Özlem (she/her) is one of the founders and executive director of Hafiza Merkezi Berlin. She worked at the Istanbul office of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and joined the Hafıza Merkezi Istanbul team in May, 2012. She ...worked as the project coordinator at the Memory and Peace Studies Program, where she was mainly responsible for the documentation of enforced disappearances, peace advocacy work and drafted several reports. In addition to her work at Hafiza Merkezi, she worked in various other projects focusing mainly on the recent worsening conditions for civil society actors in Turkey with Anadolu Kültür and the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung. She holds a MA in Sociology from Middle East Technical University and trained in Modern Turkish History in Boğaziçi University.


LEONIE HOPGOOD

Project Assistant
Leonie (she/her) joined Hafiza Merkezi Berlin as Project Assistant in 2020. She supports the implementation of the European-Turkish Network for Democracy and Civil Society Project, focusing on project development..., external communications and social media. Before joining HMB, Leonie worked for a member of the German Bundestag and gained work experience at the Centre for International Peace Operations (ZIF) and the German Embassy to Azerbaijan. She holds a MA in International Relations from Freie Universität Berlin and a BA in European Studies from Otto-von-Guericke Universität Magdeburg.


ÖZGÜR SEVGİ GÖRAL

Advisor
Özgür (she/her) is one of the founders and advisor of Hafiza Merkezi Berlin. She worked as Memory Studies Program Director at Hafiza Merkezi from 2011 to 2018, coordinated the field work, drafted several reports and books... Since 2009, she is a member of Istanbul Bar Association and has given lectures in Istanbul Technical University, Yıldız Technical University, Sabancı University and Boğaziçi University. Currently, she is an associate professor and a post-doctoral researcher at the Institut Français de Géopolitique, the University of Paris 8. She holds a PhD from Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), with her dissertation on two forms of state violence during the 1990s, namely enforced disappearance and forced migration. She received her MA from Boğaziçi University and her BA at Istanbul University Faculty of Law.
